This side starts with Dad, Dennis “Les” Chambers. His father was William Lester Chambers, and William leads us to Joseph Mart Chambers and Evelyn Boles. From there the older Chambers and More / Moore records carry the story back. Evelyn’s Boles family has room to grow as its records are reviewed.

Sandy reviewed the Indiana State Library index entry for James Chambers and Prudence More’s February 8, 1840 marriage in Martin County, Indiana. The 1860 Daviess County household lists them with Mary Jane, Silas L., Cynthia Ann, Charles R., Mana C., and Daniel M. Cynthia’s later death certificate names James and Prudence Moore as her parents. Together these records strongly support Silas’s place in their family. Strongly supported

October 24 is the family’s reading of the birth date on Silas’s worn marker. Its transcription remains provisional. Provisional
James and Prudence’s household has not yet been located. Baker and Brown townships, Martin County, have been searched manually without finding it; that does not establish where the family lived. Still researching

Indiana and Granny ’Tilda
James and Prudence married in Martin County in 1840 and appear in Daviess County in 1860. The decade between remains open. Matilda Ellen Laughlin—Granny ’Tilda in family shorthand—appears beside Silas in the pension index as Matilda E. Chambers, his widow; further research on her own branch is paused.
